But the highest level of inflation in decades has eaten up workers’ gains. Year-on-year growth in the consumer price index is above 5% each month through May 2021, peaking at 9.1% in June 2022. The data used in this analysis is from the US Bureau of Statistics’ Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics and the US Bureau of Economic Analysis’ Regional Price Parities.

To determine the affordable metropolitan areas with the most six-figure jobs, HowtoHome.com researchers calculated the share of workforce placement in occupations where the median salary is more than $100,000 and the cost of living is lower than the national average.

In the event of a tie, the location with the total number of employees in occupations with an average salary of more than $100,000 was ranked higher. To improve relevance, only metropolitan areas with at least 100,000 residents were included.
