Markdowns on laptops and other electronics may not be as meaningful, Ramhold cautioned. “We should be seeing a bigger selection and better prices when back-to-school shopping hits,” she said.

To take advantage of Prime Day deals, you must be an Amazon Prime member.

You can sign up for a month-to-month subscription or a free trial. Deal hunters should be wary of annual subscriptions, however, Ramhold advised, as the retail giant raised the price from $119 earlier this year to $139.

Next, download the Amazon app, scroll through upcoming deals and mark the items you’re interested in as “viewing.” You will receive a notification when the price is lower.

When a deal is live, quickly add the item to your cart. Some intermittent “Lightning deals” sell out quickly, Ramhold said. Once it’s in your cart, you’ll have 15 minutes to decide whether to complete the purchase.

Create that wishlist and start tracking prices now

If there’s a specific product you’re set on and you don’t see it in an upcoming sale, you can create one. Wish list Amazon will alert you if it becomes part of a Prime Day deal.

To capitalize on your savings even more, start price tracking now, says Kristin McGrath, shopping expert at RetailMeNot.

McGrath recommends a price-tracking browser extension like CamelCamlCaml or Keepa to monitor price changes and receive price-drop alerts. “Price trackers are the easiest way to monitor how good a deal really is, especially for big-ticket items,” she said.

Also ask Alexa for help. ,Amazon is known to offer shoppers special deals, or early access, if they shop through an Echo device,” McGrath said.
