Amazon unveils latest till-free grocery store opening in London

nline retail giant Amazon will open its eighth London grocery store to offer walk out shopping, as it continues to invest in physical sites.

Amazon’s High Holborn Amazon Fresh branch, which has 2,500 square feet of front-facing home space, will begin welcoming customers on November 24.

The site will allow customers to use the Amazon app to log in, put their phones away, pick up the things they need, and then walk away. People are billed to and from their Amazon account shortly after they receive an email receipt.

The company has made significant strides into the UK physical shop space this year, with a total of eight Amazon Fresh convenience stores, as well as two ‘4-star’ general stores. It is tipped to expand further.

Other retailers are also looking at new ways to offer customers different payment options.

Tesco last month opened the GetGo shop in High Holborn, which offers a checkout-free experience.

Amazon Fresh branches sell a wide variety of foods, including the firm’s own brand ‘Buy Amazon’.
