US journalist Danny Fenster was released from prison in Myanmar on Monday, his employer confirmed, after his reporting of the country’s military junta that seized power in February this year on immigration charges. Was sentenced to 11 years in prison.

Fenster’s Employers, Online Publishing frontier myanmar, confirmed their release in an online Statement Saying that the 37-year-old was on a flight out of the country.

Online magazine publisher Sway Sonny was the first Tweet Regarding Fenster’s release on Monday afternoon local time.

Fenster, facing two additional charges of treason and terrorism, was to face trial this week.

Fenster was the first Western journalist to be jailed in Myanmar after a February 1 coup by the military leadership.

Myanmar’s military has so far not commented on the circumstances behind the American’s release.
