Evista Corp. and the Chelan County, Wash., Public Utility District have finalized a 20-year contract for hydropower from the District’s Rock Island and Rocky Reach projects on the Columbia River.

Avista said the contract increases carbon-free resources toward its renewable energy goals and contributes resilient capacity to identified needs in Washington and Idaho.

The contract will provide Avista 5% of the output of the two projects from 2026 to 2030, which will increase to 10% from 2031 to 2045.

On October 1, Avista Utilities filed its first clean energy implementation plan with the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission. Avista Corp said it had a “road map” of actions to show progress toward the clean energy goals established by the state’s Clean Energy Transformation Act from 2019 onwards.

In 2019, Avista set a goal of 100% clean electricity by 2045.
