The move will take effect in January, the German chemicals company said Thursday, adding that the new subsidiary aims to supply renewable energy power to BASF in Europe, and provide consultancy for BASF in the renewable energy sector.

Horatio Evers, previously responsible for renewable energy development at BASF, will manage the Ludwigshafen-based company.

BASF Renewable Energy GmbH will undertake new projects to generate renewable energy and seal long-term supply agreements with energy producers.

“Our demand will increase significantly in the future, due to the conversion to renewable energy as well as the launch of new, low-emission generation processes based on electricity,” said Mr. Evers.
