What’s New in the iPhone 13 Mini?

Apple’s iPhone 13 mini is an overall improvement over its predecessors in many ways.

The basic footprint of the device is more or less unchanged, save for the odd grams and millimeters, so the size and screen remain the same as before.

However, Apple’s latest iteration includes a more powerful chipset (A15 Bionic processor), better battery life, and increased screen brightness.

While the camera set-up is the same as the iPhone 12 mini, Apple has added new image stabilization technology to improve the quality of your snaps.

The A15 Bionic processor, also found in the larger iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max models, is Apple’s latest computing kit.

It claims that the A15’s six-core CPU and four-core GPU make it 50% more powerful than the competition, including 30% faster graphics.

long battery life

Apple has also credited the chipset for the extended battery life of the iPhone 13 mini. On a single charge, it now offers 1.5 hours more usage than the iPhone 12 Mini.

Both the 12 and 13 have a 5.4″ Super Retina XDR display with a resolution of 2,340 x 1,080 and a pixel density of 476 pixels per inch (PPI). The latter is capable of 28% higher maximum brightness, which can come in handy, especially on a sunny day.

The front camera of the iPhone 13 mini still sits within a black bar at the top of the screen often referred to as a ‘notch’. This feature is now about 20% smaller than that of the iPhone 12 Mini.

There are also new camera features, such as Cinematic Mode, which mimics Hollywood’s ‘rack-focus’ effect – automatically switching focus between subjects and objects in the frame.

The ceramic shield of the iPhone13 mini protects against scratches and scuffs and its oleophobic coating minimizes fingerprints on the display. There is an option of 5G connectivity, as well as an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, which means the handset will work even after being submerged in fresh water of up to 1.5m for 30 minutes.

In the end, Apple’s latest miniature handset represents a slightly better value than its predecessor. The iPhone 13 mini starts life at £679 for the 128GB model, compared to £699 for the iPhone 12 mini launched last year.
