Chile’s Congress on Tuesday passed a landmark bill legalizing same-sex marriage, becoming one of a handful of countries in the world. historically catholic Latin America to do so.
President Sebastian Pinera is expected to sign it into law before stepping down in March, according to Reuters,
The law would also allow gay couples to adopt children.
Tuesday’s vote makes Chile the 31st country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage human rights campaign,
Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Uruguay and several Mexican states in Latin America have done so.
