A test car made by Chinese electric vehicle start-up Nio fell from the third-floor parking lot of a building in Shanghai, killing two people, the company said in a Weibo post on Thursday.

The incident happened at around 5:20 pm Beijing time on Wednesday. An employee of the company and a support employee were killed.

Nio said it has immediately launched an investigation into the accident in cooperation with the Department of Public Safety.

Nio put out these details in a post on China’s Twitter-like service Weibo, which was deleted minutes after they were posted. The Weibo post was shared with CNBC by a public relations officer for Nio. After this, the company posted a new statement on Weibo which was very similar to the initial statement.

The company said that after on-site analysis, it can be initially confirmed that the accident was not related to the vehicle. In the new Weibo post, the company stressed that the incident was an “accident” that was not caused by problems with the vehicle.

NIO did not respond to a request for more information on the incident or why the initial tweet was deleted when contacted by CNBC.
