A car explosion outside a hospital in Liverpool, England, is being investigated by anti-terrorism police, officials said on Sunday, hours after the explosion killed one person and injured another.

Local Merseyside police said the incident occurred at around 10:59 a.m. local time, with a taxi being pulled over outside the Women’s Hospital in the city center shortly before the explosion. Statement,

Officials said they were still determining what had happened and were “with an open mind”, but counter-terrorism police were leading the investigation as a cautious measure.

One person was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Liverpool Mayor Joan Anderson tweeted That the incident was “upsetting and disturbing” but thanked emergency services for their “rapid response”.
