the simplest of soups

The two best recipes I settle for in my slow cooker are actually soup recipes. But the best part about them is that they require so little preparation work and so few ingredients, it’s easy to put them together in the morning. One is My Simple Turkey Black Bean Chili. The other is what I affectionately refer to as a “can off” soup. You just add a jar (~16 oz) of salsa, a can of washed black beans, a can of drained chicken breast, a cup of frozen corn, and water. If you feel like getting fancy, then smash the cumin and onion. However, in my book, the easier, the better. You can find three of my favorite soup recipes on the $50 crockpot ALDI meal plan I made. Believe it or not, the meal plan will provide six hearty dinners for less than $50.

baby food

We used our $4 crockpot and $4 food processor to make almost all of Princess Young’s baby food. There is a wide range of recipes on the Internet; However, we tend to stick to mainly a single fruit or vegetable as long as they slow cook throughout the day until they become pulpy. Then, if necessary, we’ll run them through a food processor for further puree. Believe it or not, this is how we found we love a hot pear sauce. We’ve expanded the original baby food recipe a little more by adding honey and cinnamon. Check out the Honey Cinnamon Pear Sauce Recipe!

rice cooker

It’s easy to over-complicate your life and fill your kitchen with floor-to-ceiling utensils and countertop appliances that perform exactly the same function. Believe it or not, your crockpot can easily double as a rice cooker. Simply coat the inside of your crockpot with a tablespoon of butter or coconut oil, leaving the remainder in the crock. Then add 1 cup of rice to 2 cups of water. Cook on low for 4 hours or on high for 2 and in no time, you’ll have puffed, hot rice. For more specific instructions, see Fixing Rice in Your Crockpot.

Everyone loves a hot breakfast and a hot, delicious dish prepared before your feet fall on the floor is a great way to save time and money. how to care for your crockpot

If you want your crockpot to last a long time, you need to take good care of it. And cleaning your crockpot can be a snap if you take a few simple steps first.

Clean it up as soon as possible: There’s nothing worse than a sticky, crunchy slow cooker. So the sooner you can clean your appliance, the better. Use non-stick spray or butter. For some recipes, you may want to consider greasing your crock just like you would in an oven. Depending on your taste and cooking preferences, you can go for a non-stick spray, butter, or even a light oil. Use a liner. You can consider buying a crockpot liner to make cleanup easier. Look for products like Reynolds Slow Cooker Liners or PanSaver Easy Clean Multi-Use Cooking Bags. Baking Soda and Vinegar: If you really messed something up, you can fill it with hot water in the mess line. Then slowly add 2 T baking soda, 1/4 cup white vinegar, a squeeze of dish soap to the slow cooker. Turn it on low for an hour and then come back to scrub.
