Daimler AG expects continued strong market growth in China in 2022 as the auto maker has seen decent growth in the country this year.
“I am extremely optimistic about China next year as well,” Hubertus Trosca, the carmaker’s China head, told reporters on Thursday.
Everything speaks to the fact that China will be a “super market” in 2022 and the demand for premium vehicles in particular is strong, he said.
Daimler sells almost every third car in China, the most important market for the auto maker.
While other markets experienced a slowdown this year, mainly due to semiconductor shortages, Daimler’s Mercedes-Benz brand was able to grow sales in China by 4% to about 592,200 vehicles in the first nine months of 2021. However, sales in the third quarter were impacted by constraints in China chip supply.
Mr. Troska said the electric vehicle market in China is particularly important. “China will be by far the most important market for electric vehicles in the next ten years,” he said.
