Former Congressional Budget Office Director ‘Puzzled’ About Biden Administration’s Energy Agenda
During an interview Friday with Cavuto: Coast to Coast, former Congressional Budget Office director and AAF president Douglas Holtz-Eakin criticized the Biden administration’s approach to climate change, saying their policies are not aligned with the country’s “broader social goals.”
DOUGLAS HOLTZ-IAKIN: I was baffled by this administration’s approach to climate change. If you care about the climate, you care about what you get, you don’t demonize what kind of fuel is used. And their strategy is built on the rejection of valuable energy sources. This is not a particularly rational strategy. All in-depth research into the economics of climate change shows that natural gas and other fossil fuels will be used for decades, even if you switch to cleaner fuel and control emissions from eeconomy.
So this is research. This strategy is not based on anything approaching research reality. This is a very risky bet on solar and wind. And it doesn’t make sense in terms of broader social goals that we support rising living standards, a sustainable ability to make people work and clean environment. You can do all of these at the same time. But this strategy does not allow this.
