Fox News Names Jesse Watters Host of 7 p.m. Hour

Mr. Waters will leave his weekend show ‘Waters World’, but will continue to co-host ‘The Five’

Mr Waters joined Fox News as a production assistant before taking on an on-camera assignment in 2002. He hosted the “Waters World” segment for the popular prime-time show “The O’Reilly Factor” hosted by former anchor Bill O’Reilly. Those segments sometimes included ambush interviews with subjects, including HuffPost journalist Amanda Terkel, then a columnist for the left-wing outlet ThinkProgress.

Mr. Waters became the solo host of “Waters’ World” in 2017; According to Fox News, it has been the top show on Saturdays at 8 p.m., averaging nearly 1.9 million viewers. The network called “The Five,” where Mr. Waters has co-hosted since 2017, the lead of all cable news shows in the fourth quarter of 2021 with a total of 3.3 million viewers.

Mr Waters sparked controversy in December for remarks he made to young conservatives, in which he criticized the country’s top infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci to conduct a confrontational interview. A clip of the speech showed Mr Waters using the phrase “kill shot” to describe the aggressive interview style he favored.

Mr Fauci said during a CNN interview that Mr Waters should be fired. Fox News said at the time that Mr Waters’ comments were taken out of context.

Fox News and the Wall Street Journal parent News Corp share common ownership.

Elsewhere in the world of cable news, MSNBC said Monday it tapped former White House official Simone Sanders to host a weekend show on the network’s cable channel and parent NBCUniversal’s video-streaming services Gave. CNN said Monday that NPR host, Audie Cornish, will be an anchor and correspondent for its CNN+ streaming service.
