The restaurant’s parent company, Aberdeen Restaurant Enterprises, said in a statement that the floating restaurant suffered bad conditions after it passed the Paracel Islands in the South China Sea on Saturday, and the ship began to tip.

Despite efforts to save the boat, the boat capsized on Sunday, the company said, adding that no crew member was injured.

The company said it was “deeply saddened by this accident,” adding that the water depth of more than 1,000 meters (3,280 ft) made it challenging to salvage the ship, according to the Associated Press.
