Angela Lansburyone of the most legendary Hollywood stars, died on Tuesday at the age of 96.

“Dame Angela Lansbury’s children sadly report that their mother died peacefully in a dream at home in Los Angeles at 1:30 AM today, Tuesday, October 11, 2022, just five days before her 97th birthday,” her family said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

“In addition to her three children, Anthony, Deirdre and David, she is survived by three grandchildren, Peter, Katherine and Jan, as well as five great-grandchildren and her brother, producer Edgar Lansbury,” the statement said. “She was preceded by the death of her husband of 53, Peter Shaw. A private family ceremony will be held on a date to be determined.”

Lansbury told People in 1984 that she almost didn’t get the role of Jessica Fletcher.

“Peter Fisher originally wrote this for Jean Stapleton, but she had just lost her husband and didn’t want to do anything,” Lansbury said.

Lansbury portrayed detective writer and an amateur detective on the CBS series for 12 seasons from 1984 to 1996.
