The IRS announced today That it prompted their “Where’s My Refund?” A much requested update for tool. The update now allows taxpayers to return the current tax year and check the status of the last two years. Prior to the update, taxpayers could only check their current year’s refund status and once the current year tool came online, refund status became unavailable for previous year’s returns.

For example, a taxpayer who has filed his TY2021 tax return can check the status of his refund within 24 hours of e-filing or within four weeks of mailing his return. These taxpayers can also use the updated tool to check the status of their returns for TY2019 and/or TY2020. Taxpayers who have not yet filed their TY2021 tax return can use the updated tool to check the status of their TY2019 and/or TY2020 refund and can also check the status of their TY2021 refund once the return is filed.
