DUBAI, Oct 3 (Businesshala) – Boeing (BA.N) expected to release an updated production plan for its 787 Dreamliner wide-body jet this month, the chief executive of Italian aerospace firm Leonardo (LDOF.MI) said .
“The next day they will come up with a new plan,” Leonardo CEO Alessandro Profumo told Businesshala at the Dubai Expo on Saturday. “They’re saying they’re ‘a little over-optimistic’, shall we say.”
Profumo did not say whether production rates would change in the new plan to be released by Boeing. Leonardo manufactures part of the Dreamliner airframe.
A representative for Boeing told Businesshala the planmaker has no updates on 787 production. He did not say whether a new production plan would be released soon.
“We are constantly analyzing the global aviation market, coordinating closely with suppliers and aligning supply with demand.”
Profumo cited existing advice from planners that Leonardo expects Boeing to produce 10 Dreamliners a month by the end of 2025.
As per the latest available data, in 2019 Boeing was producing at 14 per month.
US planners suspended Dreamliner deliveries in late May after the Federal Aviation Administration raised concerns about its proposed inspection method.
