Just ask comedian Jimmy Fallon, who from Tuesday through Wednesday fell victim to a hashtag that speculated he was no longer alive.

The tag #RIPJimmyFallon started trending Tuesday after thousands of people started using the hashtag in tweets, some not realizing the hashtag was fake while others fully embraced the joke.

The hashtag itself attracted the attention of Fallon, an avid Twitter user who often creates a “hashtag of the week” to allow fans of his show to play along and end his tweets during a segment of that week’s episode. gives a chance The Late Show, which asked Musk to remove it.
