The investigation found that twenty percent of 38 samples from children’s, adult and maternity clothing and accessories had high levels of chemicals — including lead, PFAS and phthalates — that experts found to be concerning.

Potentially harmful levels of chemicals were found in some products sold by AliExpress, Shein and Zaful.

“People should be shocked,” said Miriam Diamond, an environmental chemist and professor at the University of Toronto.

YouTube moves to block and remove all anti-vaccine misinformation

YouTube is stepping up its efforts to prevent anti-vaxxers from sharing misinformation.

The company is moving to block and remove all content that spreads misinformation about vaccines against COVID-19 and other diseases, such as measles, hepatitis and chickenpox.

YouTube said in a blog post on Wednesday that any content that “falsely alleges that approved vaccines are dangerous and cause chronic health effects” will be removed.

The decision comes as YouTube and other tech giants, such as Facebook and Twitter, have been criticized for not doing enough to stop the spread of false health information on their sites. Twitter recently began flagging much of its content as misleading or “manipulative media” and has increased the number of accounts that are temporarily or permanently banned. read more

Being a flight attendant is not easy. Anti-mascars are making it harder

It’s not just COVID-19 that is making life in the air stressful for flight attendants these days. These are also passengers.

The Canadian Union of Public Employees says flight attendants have seen an increase in bad behavior over the summer. They say verbal altercations with passengers are common and affect the mental health of flight attendants.

Many problems stem from passengers refusing to comply with the federal requirement to wear face masks on board. Data from Transport Canada shows that incidents of passenger non-compliance with the mask mandate have been reported during the summer.

Airlines reported 330 passengers to the regulator for refusing to wear masks during July and August, which is more than double the number of incidents in April and May. read more
