When asked at a news conference if he had spoken with Trump about the idea, a grinning Getz—one of the hardest-right delegates in Congress—answered: “I have,” though. He will not go into further details.

Getz launched a fundraising effort over the summer, when he promised to nominate Trump as speaker if the GOP takes over the House again, though Trump aides denied there was any interest in his role.

The idea inspired high-profile, far-right Republicans, such as Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) And Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green (R-Ga.), who said he would “prefer” for Trump to be speaker and for House Republicans to impeach President Joe Biden.

Representatives for what Trump dubbed “the office of the former president” did not respond to a request for comment.
