There are over 1,000 unicorns globally today. But becoming a unicorn, or achieving a billion dollar valuation is no longer a sign of growth. This is a reflection of investor appetite and confidence in the future growth potential. The term ‘centaur’, coined by venture capital firm Bessemer, indicates companies that achieved $100M in annual recurring revenue (ARR).

Here are the benchmarks Bessemer used to measure this growth.

There are a slew of cybersecurity companies worth noting immediately on this list, but equally impressive are the number of Israeli startups in the consumer sector (Moon active, simple, Lightricks, Minute Media, MyHeritage) with over $100 million in ARR . I am excited for the talent that will grow out of those companies to create the next generation of B2C stars that are coming out of Israel. Sorry to humbrag, but I’m proud to see Minute Media, our Reimagine Ventures portfolio company (and our later-stage investments) on this prestigious list.

Israeli startups hit a record $26.6 billion in 2021, and so far fears of a recession are yet to be met despite a global slowdown in enterprise activity in 2022. Israeli startups raised $1.1 billion in August and more than $2.5 billion in September alone, reaching more than $17.4 billion in the first 9 months of 2022. The best is yet to come.
