Merck KGaA Signs $137M U.S. Govt Contract for Wisconsin Production Plant

Merck KGA said late Wednesday that its life-sciences business has signed a 121 million euro ($137.3 million) contract with the US government to build a lateral-flow-membrane production plant in Wisconsin.

The German chemical company will build the facility at its site in Scheboygen over a period of three years.

Merck said the deal was signed as the US continues to push to secure local supplies and production capacity for products that will be critical to pandemic preparedness.

The Hi-Flow Plus Lateral Flow Membrane, which will be manufactured at the company’s facility, is used by “Merck’s customers in manufacturing rapid diagnostic test-kits, which enable reproducible results due to its consistent quality and optimized properties.” does,” it said.
