According to a press release, the production company Hana Kuma will produce scripted and non-fiction material, including a New York Times documentary about Patsy Mink, the first woman of color elected to the US Congress. The announcement said that Hana Kuma would highlight “empowering” and “culturally distinctive” stories.

“There’s been an explosion of color creators that’s finally armed with resources and a huge
platform,” Osaka said in the release. “In the streaming age, content has a more global perspective. You can see it in the popularity of television from Asia, Europe and Latin America that the unique can also be universal. My story is also proof of this.”
