Russian court tells bailiffs to enforce collection of unpaid Facebook fines

MOSCOW, Oct 7 (Businesshala) – A Moscow court asked state bailiffs on Thursday to enforce the collection of 26 million rubles ($361,400) in fines imposed on American social media giant Facebook (FB.O), which Russia considers illegal. .

The court said in a statement that the Tagansky District Court in Moscow has ordered eight fines that Facebook has not paid.

Facebook did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

State communications regulator Roskomnadzor has filed 20 cases against Facebook this year and fined about 70 million rubles.

Russia says Facebook has not paid any fines, highlighting the challenges it faces in cracking down on foreign tech giants.

Roskomnadzor is now seeking to impose a hefty fine on Facebook that will total 5-10% of the company’s annual turnover in Russia, which it says is a repeated legal violation.
