October 4, 2022 Social Security Information – in Spanish
About 14 percent of the employees here speak Spanish. Social Security has a website for you.
Translation: About 14 percent of the working-age population here speaks Spanish. Social Security has a website for you.
It is important that workers who only speak Spanish or are more comfortable with the language have a clear understanding of how Social Security benefits work. It is estimated that Americans age 65 and older receive less than a third of their income in benefits, and those with lower incomes rely on it for much more than that.
Social Security’s Spanish-language website, which has existed in some form since the mid-1990s, provides general information about the program and also addresses issues that are particularly relevant to this population. An example is the responsibility of an employer to report income for one in four domestic workers in this country who are Latina.
Some of the common topics mentioned on the website are given below:
How do retirement benefits work? (How retirement benefits work.) Decide when benefits begin. (Deciding when to start taking benefits.) What other things can affect your retirement benefits. (Things That Can Affect Benefits.) Checklist for Your Retirement. (Retirement checklist.)
