SYDNEY – An Australian subtitle company said one of its employees was the source of TV footage in which two news anchors criticized Novak Djokovic amid an uproar over the tennis star’s COVID-19 vaccine status.

AI-Media Technologies Ltd said on Friday that a remote worker was responsible for the unauthorized distribution of content due to Australia’s current surge in COVID-19 cases.

“Appropriate action has been taken in respect of the responsible employee,” AI-Media said.

It did not say what the action was.

AI-Media CEO Tony Abraham said the incident was the first of its kind in his company’s 19-year history.

Footage leaked online this week showed Channel 7 news anchors criticizing Djokovic, who had entered Australia despite not being vaccinated against COVID-19. One anchor said he was “lying and timid.”

Seven Network did not apologize for the comment and said on Wednesday it would investigate what it called an illegal recording of a private conversation.

AI-Media is one of the largest captioning providers in Australia and also has offices in the US, UK and Canada.
