In the money: Emma Walmsley
Britain’s two top bosses have received huge payouts despite the country being in the grip of a cost-of-living crisis.
BP chief executive Bernard Looney and Emma Walmsley, who heads GlaxoSmithKline, have received a total of £18.5m for 2022.
Looney’s salary more than doubled last year to £10m.
He was paid a salary of £1.37m and an annual bonus of £2.37m, plus shares worth £6m last year.
Looney, 53, has been awarded 120 per cent more than the £4.5m he received in 2021 after BP reported a £23bn annual profit last month.
Walmsley, 53, the head of Britain’s largest pharmaceutical company, received an £8.5m reward package, up from the £8.2m received a year earlier.
GSK has awarded her a £1.2 million salary, slightly more than the amount she received in 2021.
She also received a £3.1 million bonus as well as a £3.7 million bonus. This comes after a rough year for Walmsley when GSK spun off its consumer division into a new company called Haleon.
