KYIV, Oct 7 (Businesshala) – Alexandrina Denisenko, a senior flight attendant with seven years of experience, says she sometimes doesn’t get an extra minute to sit still during a flight and spends hours wearing heels on her swollen feet. Dreams of giving rest to the feet.
SkyUp Airlines, the privately owned Ukrainian carrier that employs Denisenko, decided to eliminate the heels and pencil skirts after collecting feedback from flight attendants about their uniforms.
The new SkyUp uniform for women now includes a loose orange suit and a silk scarf with white Nike sneakers and trousers, both made by Ukrainian brands. A white T-shirt will replace the blouse.
“The shoes look beautiful on the heels, I don’t argue with that, but by the end of the flight the feet are sore and swollen. The sneakers are absolutely cool,” Denisenko told Businesshala.
“God forbid, but if a crew has to get into the water and make an evacuation, the heel could damage the ladder and it wouldn’t be very comfortable to swim in a skirt,” she said.
The company said they researched the history of cabin crew uniforms and decided to drop “conservative” elements of flight attendants’ looks. Braids will now replace the tight-bun or pony-tail hairstyle.
“We learned that despite the fact that the image of a female flight attendant is very romantic, her job requires a lot of physical training,” said Marianna Grigorsch, head of marketing at SkyUp Airlines.
The new uniform will be officially launched on October 22.
Grigorsch said the company also plans to launch a new uniform for the male crew. A light suit instead of a vest, and a T-shirt instead of a shirt will be paired with black Nike sneakers.
“If the whole world and all the fashionistas wear sneakers, why not bring it to aviation?” said the flight attendant Zoriana.
