S sportswear giant Lids is making the leap across the Atlantic with plans for over 100 stores across Europe.
The retailer, which specializes in branded merchandise from major US football, basketball, hockey and baseball teams, has begun its global expansion with new branches at Seven Dials in London and O2’s Peninsula Square.
Two more outlets will open this month at the Lakeside Shopping Center and Brighton’s Churchill Square.
Tom Ripley, CEO of Lids and Partner at Ames Watson, its parent company, said: “Lid has grown to be one of the strongest retailers in North America and we are thrilled to take this growth internationally.”
The chain has grown into a billion-dollar business since it was acquired by AW in 2019 and now operates nearly 2000 outlets in the US and Canada, including the new National Hockey League and National Basketball Association flagships in New York .
It sells 30 million hats each year – mostly baseball caps.
