World Health Organization recommended On Tuesday, people who are at risk of developing severe COVID-19 symptoms, including those over the age of 60, postponed travel over concerns that the Omicron variant could be more contagious.

The WHO asked countries to take mitigation measures to “delay or reduce” the spread of the variant, including screening departing and arriving passengers for COVID-19 and implementing a quarantine for international travelers.

The agency noted that the “blanket travel ban” would not prevent the international spread of the variant and could instead “dissuade” countries from reporting and sharing data on the Omicron variant.
